Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are scheduled to visit Nigeria in May for discussions related to the Invictus Games, an initiative founded by Prince Harry to support the rehabilitation of wounded and sick servicemembers and veterans.
This visit follows an invitation extended by Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.
The exact arrival date for Prince Harry’s visit was not specified in a statement from Nigeria’s Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau.
However, it is expected that Prince Harry will embark on this trip following a service at London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral on May 8, marking the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.
The purpose of the visit, as mentioned by Gusau, is to strengthen Nigeria’s participation in the Invictus Games and explore the possibility of Nigeria hosting the event in the future.
During their time in Nigeria, the royal couple will meet with servicemembers and their families and engage in various traditional cultural activities.
Nigeria’s military team participated in the previous edition of the Invictus Games held in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Prince Harry and Meghan had the opportunity to spend time with the Nigerian team during the event, with Prince Harry mentioning that his wife was a big fan of theirs.
The Invictus Games, inspired by the United States Warrior Games, were established by Prince Harry in 2014 to provide wounded veterans with the opportunity to participate in sports events akin to the Paralympics.
