Pro-Palestinian demonstrations have escalated at Columbia University, with protesters taking control of an academic building early Tuesday in solidarity with Gaza amid the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The demonstrators at Hamilton Hall barricaded entrances, displayed a Palestinian flag, and renamed the building “Hind’s Hall” after a young Gaza victim.
They demand divestment, financial transparency, and amnesty from the university.
The protest has led to campus restrictions, with more than 1,000 arrests reported on campuses nationwide as the academic year concludes.
Jewish students have expressed feeling unsafe, and recent remarks by a protest leader have drawn condemnation from the White House.
