Bernard Hill, a well-known actor recognized for his roles in Titanic, Lord of the Rings, Boys from the Black Stuff, and Gandhi, has sadly passed away at the age of 79.
Hill, famous for roles like Captain Edward Smith in Titanic and King Théoden in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, passed away earlier today, as confirmed by his agent Lou Coulson, to BBC.
Barbara Dickson, a colleague who collaborated with Hill on the 1974-1975 production John Paul George Ringo and Bert, expressed her sorrow, describing him as an exceptional actor and reminiscing about the privilege of working with him.
Born in Manchester, Hill studied at Manchester Polytechnic School of Drama and began his television career in 1976 as Police Constable Cluff in Crown Court.
He gained further acclaim for his portrayal of Yosser Hughes in Alan Bleasdale’s BBC Play for Today.
Hill also made significant stage appearances, including in The Cherry Orchard, Macbeth, and A View from the Bridge.
