Five individuals suspected of kidnapping a pastor’s wife and two others were captured after one of the victims recognized them.
The hostages managed to escape when the kidnappers dozed off while transporting them to their hideout, reportedly due to the kidnappers’ use of hard drugs.
The apprehended suspects were identified as Garuba Mumuni (27), Yusuf Tale (21), Kabiru Muhammed (16), Shaibu Umar, and Adamu Mohammed (22).
The arrests were made by officers from the Ofosu Division based on information provided by the victims.
According to the police, the incident was reported at the Ofosu Division involving the abduction of a pastor’s wife and a church member, as well as another individual while collecting snails on a farm.
The victims managed to escape on different occasions after the kidnappers fell asleep due to drugs.
Acting on intelligence, five of the suspected kidnappers were apprehended on May 1, 2024, by Ofosu division officers and identified by the victims.
Additionally, a separate kidnapping case was reported on March 28, 2024, at Ifon Police Station, where two individuals were abducted and a woman was killed.
Through collaborative efforts with local vigilantes, police detectives arrested Muhammad Bello, Muhammad Suraju, and Suleiman Saliu.
One victim identified two of these suspects as involved in his kidnapping and ransom payment of ₦1,800,000 before his release.
The Ondo police commissioner, Peter Abayomi, confirmed that the suspects would be charged to court soon.
