Foreign ministers from 26 European Union member countries have jointly issued a statement urging for a ceasefire in response to Israel’s evacuation directive for the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
They called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to halt the ongoing attack.
The European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, emphasized the need for Israel to cease its ground offensive in Rafah and highlighted the importance of action from both the EU and the international community to prevent further escalation.
Borrell expressed concern that Israel’s evacuation order for civilians in Rafah indicates an escalation leading to increased conflict and a humanitarian crisis.
On Tuesday, Borrell voiced his worries about the situation in Rafah, stating that the Israeli military offensive would result in numerous civilian casualties despite international pleas for Netanyahu not to proceed with the attack.
