The Lagos State Government has begun clearing shanties and removing unauthorized occupants from Ikoyi Towers.
Tokunbo Wahab, the State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, announced through X that a joint effort between the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps and the Special Task Force on Environmental Offences is underway to evict illegal occupants and dismantle shanties at Ikoyi Towers, following a 48-hour eviction notice.
Wahab stated, “The government’s issuance of relocation notices and enforcement actions is aimed at reclaiming land and public facilities that have been converted for personal use, ensuring public safety, enforcing urban planning, and addressing the proliferation of illegal settlements and structures in Lagos State.”
He highlighted the discovery of numerous unregistered residents whose activities within the premises were unverified, emphasizing the potential threat posed to the state and underscoring the necessity of the eviction operation.
