The Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of THISDAY and Arise Media Group, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, called on African leaders to prioritize the removal of visa restrictions within the continent to facilitate free movement of people and goods, ultimately fostering regional development.

He emphasized the pivotal role of the media in shaping Africa’s narrative during a three-day AllAfrica Media Leaders’ Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.

Obaigbena urged media stakeholders to engage political leaders in ensuring good governance across Africa.

He highlighted the absurdity of African citizens needing visas to travel within their own continent while Europeans move freely across borders.

Obaigbena stressed that addressing visa barriers is essential for meaningful intra-African trade.

He also emphasized the importance of fostering proper governance and democracy in Africa to combat poverty and empower the continent.

Dr. Tendai Mhizha, the Summit Director, emphasized the media’s role as a catalyst for Africa’s development, advocating for the eradication of stereotypes and the promotion of success stories by journalists.

The summit’s outcomes included plans to establish financing partnerships with the African Development Bank to support media development and training initiatives that integrate digital technologies.

Amadou Mahtar Ba, Chairman of the AllAfrica Media Leaders’ Summit, expressed gratitude to participants and sponsors, announcing the summit’s return as an annual event.

The summit aimed to drive positive change through media engagement, governance improvement, and economic development across Africa.
