Ms. Burukai Muchadzireva, based in Chinhoyi, was one of three candidates interviewed for the single position of judge of the Administrative Court by a panel led by Chief Justice Luke Malaba in Harare yesterday.
Fidelis Munyoro, Chief Court Reporter, reported that Ms. Muchadzireva, currently awaiting sentencing for professional misconduct, faced tough questioning during her interview.
Chief Justice Malaba and Deputy Chief Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza queried her suitability for the position in light of her pending case.
Ms. Muchadzireva explained that her conviction stemmed from representing a client in a personal injury case.
She maintained that the complainants against her were not her clients and defended her integrity, stating that she was penalized unfairly.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) will now consider the qualifications of the candidates and submit a list of nominees to the President, who will make the final appointment according to the Constitution of Zimbabwe.
