London’s Gatwick Airport has submitted two mandatory occurrence reports to the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) concerning Nigeria’s flag carrier, Air Peace, and its operations at the airport.
The reports documented safety violations by the airline, which were detailed in the “United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report” with reference number CAA-UK-2024-0217 and the “NATS Management System Safety Report”.
Following this, the UK’s Safety Assessment of Foreign Aircraft (SAFA) has written to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) regarding alleged safety breaches by Air Peace in London.
In response, the NCAA sent a letter to Air Peace’s Chief Executive Officer, referencing NCAA/DOLTS/APL/Vol.11/03624, informing them that they had received a SAFA Ramp Inspection Report (CAA-UK-2024-0217) from London Gatwick, conducted on April 7, 2024, on Air Peace’s B777-200 aircraft with registration Number 5N-BE (S/N 28324).
Additionally, the NCAA stated that the UK CAA had notified them of the lack of operational approval of Electronic Flight Bag functions, which affects the safe operation of the aircraft. The flight captain reportedly admitted to using an Electronic Flight Bag for navigational purposes.
Consequently, the Nigerian airline regulator has requested Air Peace to provide corrective actions regarding the issues raised by the CAA.
Air Peace began operating flights to London Gatwick from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) that Nigeria has with the UK.
