Soldiers have been deployed to Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero’s residence, following his removal and the issuance of an arrest order by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Governor Yusuf instructed the dismissed Emirs to vacate their palaces and hand over within 48 hours.
After the repeal of the Kano Emirates Council Law, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar II (Karaye), Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Inuwa (Rano), Alhaji Nasir Ado Bayero (Bichi), and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir (Gaya) complied with the directives. However, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero (Kano) returned to Kano on Saturday.
Upon his arrival at Aminu Kano International Airport at 4:30 am, the monarch was welcomed by a large crowd of supporters chanting the Takbir and reciting verses from the Holy Qur’an. He then performed the Subhi (dawn prayer) at the airport before proceeding to the mini-palace in Nassarawa.
In response to Ado Bayero’s return, Governor Yusuf ordered his immediate arrest, accusing him of causing confusion in the state.
A statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on behalf of the governor, alleged that Ado Bayero had been smuggled into Kano city in an attempt to forcibly return to the palace two days after his removal.
Soldiers subsequently moved into the palace at Nasarawa, where the 15th Emir resides, as per the governor’s order.
Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, Deputy Governor of Kano, accused the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, of facilitating the return of the dethroned Emir. Speaking at the Emir’s palace in Gidan Rumfa on Saturday, Gwarzo claimed that the NSA had provided two jets to bring Ado Bayero back to Kano.
Gwarzo said, “The National Security Adviser provided two jets to bring the dethroned emir to Kano and to bring him to the palace. We have not understood their intention.”
