Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has authorized free rides on the newly launched Abuja Rail Transport System until the year’s end.
To mark his first year in office, Tinubu inaugurated the project in Abuja on Wednesday.
The President commended Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike for the “swift completion of the project.”
Earlier, Wike had declared that commuters could use the Abuja Light Rail for free for the first two months.
During a ministerial press briefing in Abuja, Wike stated that the free rides would start on Tuesday as part of the president’s renewed hope agenda for FCT residents.
Expressing his satisfaction with the project, the President announced that the free rides would continue until the end of December 2024.
