Two ships caught fire after being hit by projectiles off the coast of Aden, Yemen, according to reports from two UK maritime agencies on Sunday.

British security firm Ambrey reported that an Antigua and Barbuda-flagged cargo ship was struck by a missile 83 nautical miles southeast of Aden, causing a fire that was eventually contained.

Earlier, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) received a report from a ship’s captain about an incident 80 nautical miles southeast of Aden.

“The ship was traveling southwest in the Gulf of Aden at 8.2 knots when a missile hit the forward station, causing a fire that was put out,” Ambrey stated in an advisory note.

“A second missile was seen but missed the ship. Small boats nearby fired on the ship during the incident.”

Ambrey reported that the ship changed course and increased speed, with no injuries reported.

Separately, Ambrey and UKMTO received a report of another incident 70 nautical miles southwest of Aden.

“The ship’s master reported being hit by an unknown projectile on the aft section, causing a fire.

Damage control efforts are ongoing,” UKMTO said in an advisory note.
