Nigeria has joined other countries in calling for a ceasefire to end the long-standing Israel-Palestine conflict, which has lasted for eight months.
Nigeria has endorsed United States President Joe Biden’s appeal for a ceasefire and urged global leaders to support it.
Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, emphasized the country’s commitment to supporting the United States in achieving a complete cessation of violence and ending the loss of lives and humanitarian crises caused by the conflict.
He stressed the importance of coordinated international efforts to resolve the conflict swiftly.
Tuggar urged world leaders and the international community to embrace President Biden’s ceasefire proposal to accelerate efforts towards resolving the conflict and halting the extreme violence in Gaza and other affected areas.
He also emphasized the crucial need for continuous and sufficient humanitarian aid to save the lives of civilians impacted by the conflict.
The minister expressed concern over the ongoing bloodshed and its implications for global justice, noting that Biden’s plan offers a clear path towards progress and peace.
Additionally, Tuggar highlighted the recent violence, noting that Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, resulted in the deaths of 1,200 Israelis, including 38 children, while Israeli bombardments in Gaza have claimed the lives of at least 36,731 individuals, including 7,797 children.
In response to these retaliatory actions, the United Nations blacklisted the Israeli military on Friday, categorizing them among the parties accused of violating children’s rights in conflict zones.
