Elon Musk has withdrawn his lawsuit against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman, which accused the organization of breaching a contract and deviating from its mission to develop AI for the benefit of humanity.
Musk’s decision to drop the lawsuit came just one day before a scheduled hearing in a California state court, where OpenAI had requested the case’s dismissal.
This move followed Musk’s recent statement that he would prohibit Apple products at his companies if Apple integrated OpenAI’s technology into its devices “at a system level,” alongside other unconventional threats.
In his lawsuit, Musk claimed that OpenAI violated an agreement made with him and other founding members, all of whom committed to maintaining OpenAI as a nonprofit and keeping its technology open source.
However, as pointed out by Nilay Patel of The Verge, there were significant flaws in Musk’s case. Patel highlighted that Musk alleged a breach of contract based on a “Founding Agreement” that was not provided as evidence, and the claim admitted that the agreement was informal and not a legally binding contract.
