Distinguished guests have begun arriving in South Africa ahead of the inauguration of the President.
Many of the leaders attending the ceremony on Wednesday are from the SADC region.
Heads of state and government from various SADC countries, as well as leaders from regional African organizations, will be present.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chairman of ECOWAS and President of Nigeria, arrived on Tuesday evening.
Moussa Faki Mahamat, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, is expected to arrive soon, along with Kenya’s Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa of Cuba and Prime Minister Gervais Ndirakobuca of Burundi arrived on Tuesday.
Other countries will be represented by their ambassadors and high commissioners.
The event will be attended by at least 18 Heads of State and Government, 3 former Heads of State and Government, and nine Heads of Delegation.
High-level representation at the Inauguration includes officials from the Kingdom of eSwatini, Kingdom of Lesotho, Republics of Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Angola, and Tanzania, Republic of Uganda, People’s Republic of China, Arab Republic of Egypt, State of Palestine, and Republic of Cuba.
The theme for the occasion is “30 Years of Democracy, Partnership, and Growth.”
The swearing-in of the President-Elect will be conducted by Chief Justice Raymond Zondo in the Nelson Mandela Amphitheatre at the Union Buildings.
