Abba Kyari, the embattled Deputy Commissioner facing drug trafficking charges, was denied bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Justice Emeka Nwite, the presiding judge, ruled that Kyari’s bail application lacked merit. The judge pointed out that Kyari, who is suspended from duty, did not provide any exceptional circumstances justifying bail pending the conclusion of his trial.
Judge Nwite noted that a previous bail application by Kyari had already been dismissed and ordered an expedited hearing of the case.
He emphasized that no new evidence was presented to warrant a reversal of the court’s earlier decision.
Consequently, the court rejected Kyari’s bail application, allowing the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to proceed with prosecuting Kyari and his co-defendants in the case.
