Israeli forces’ bombardments have resulted in the deaths of 45 Palestinians after close-quarter combat with Hamas, according to Reuters.

The Red Cross reported that its Gaza office was destroyed by “heavy calibre projectiles” fired by the Israeli military, which landed in Mawasi near Rafah on Friday afternoon.

This attack killed at least 25 people living in tents around the compound and injured 50 others.

“This incident caused a mass casualty influx at the nearby Red Cross Field Hospital, with the hospital receiving 22 killed and 45 injured, with reports of additional casualties,” the Red Cross stated.

The strike damaged the ICRC office structure, which is surrounded by hundreds of displaced civilians living in tents, including many Palestinian colleagues, according to the ICRC.

The organization emphasized that all parties are required to take measures to prevent harm to civilians and humanitarian facilities.

The Red Cross confirmed that 22 people were killed near its Gaza office. The Israeli military announced it would investigate the incident.

Over 37,000 people have been killed in Gaza following the Israeli military campaign that began after Hamas’ attacks last October, which killed hundreds and resulted in numerous hostages being taken.

The Hamas-run health ministry reports that the majority of those killed in Gaza have been children, women, and elderly people.
