Yielding to pressure after a series of protests, President William Ruto has chosen not to sign the 2024 Finance Bill into law.
This decision comes after yesterday’s violent demonstrations, during which protesters entered Parliament for the first time in the country’s history.
By refusing to approve the bill and sending it back to Parliament, the president appears to be trying to calm the situation, with protesters threatening to return to the streets on Thursday.
“The people have spoken,” President Ruto said. “I have conceded, and now that we have set it aside, we need to have a national conversation.”
