The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) have announced plans for nationwide demonstrations starting next Tuesday.
This decision follows unsuccessful negotiations with the Ministers of Education and Labour.
In a circular distributed to branch chairmen and media outlets on Sunday, the unions detailed their intention to hold protests beginning July 9, 2024 across state chapters, culminating in a national protest in Abuja on July 18.
The circular, jointly signed by NASU’s General Secretary, Prince Peters Adeyemi, and SSANU’s National President, Comrade Mohammed H. Ibrahim, stated that talks with government officials yielded no commitment to address issues such as withheld salaries.
Branch meetings are scheduled for July 8 to inform members about the unions’ concerns, with plans for further actions, including a potential strike, pending the outcome of the protests.
