Kenya’s Police Chief, Japhet Koome, resigned on Friday amid heavy criticism of the police force’s management during recent protests against the government, where at least 39 people died.
The resignation followed President William Ruto’s dismissal of most of his cabinet on Thursday.
The presidency announced that Deputy Inspector-General Douglas Kanja would immediately assume the role of acting police chief.
