The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are maintaining their demand for a minimum wage of N250,000, while the tripartite committee has proposed N62,000.
After a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, labour leaders, including NLC President Joe Ajaero and TUC’s Festus Osifo, reiterated their stance, emphasizing that no changes have been made to their demands.
The meeting, described as a discussion rather than a negotiation, ended with an agreement to reconvene next week to further deliberate on the matter.
Labour representatives highlighted economic challenges faced by Nigerians, including currency devaluation and its impact on prices.
The government expressed optimism that the wage deadlock could be resolved by the following week, following discussions between President Tinubu and labour leaders.
