Early Friday in Tel Aviv, Israel, a major explosion resulted in one death and seven injuries.
The Israel Defense Forces attributed the explosion to “an aerial target which fell without an early warning.”
This incident is among the most severe attacks on Tel Aviv since the Hamas assault on October 7. Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the drone strike.
The explosion occurred at around 3 AM local time, one block from the U.S. embassy branch office in Tel Aviv, which houses hundreds of employees.
A video on social media captured a loud buzzing sound before the explosion. No air raid sirens were activated prior to the explosion. The Tel Aviv fire department suggested the explosion might have been caused by a drone attack.
The Houthi rebels in Yemen announced they would soon declare a significant military operation.
