The Nigerian Army has once again emphasized that civilians are not allowed to wear military camouflage.
This reminder comes after an old video resurfaced, showing a soldier assaulting a civilian dressed in an Army Desert Camouflage uniform.
Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, stated that only members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the Nigeria Police Force are authorized to wear military camouflage. This rule is crucial as terrorists and criminals have used such attire to carry out crimes, posing significant security threats.
Nwachukwu clarified that the video, which dates back to 2021, depicts a soldier punishing a civilian for wearing military camouflage. He noted that the soldier involved was disciplined for his actions at the time.
The video has been recirculated recently, but Nwachukwu emphasized that it is outdated and used either out of context or with malicious intent to stir conflict between the military and the public.
The Nigerian Army remains committed to enforcing the law and ensuring public safety, and Nwachukwu urged the public to disregard the video and stay alert to attempts at creating unrest.
