Nigerian table tennis player Olajide Omotayo was defeated 4-1 by Iran’s Noshad Alamiyan in the men’s singles Round of 64 at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This loss ends Omotayo’s aspirations for a medal in the table tennis singles event.
Previously eliminated in the first round at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Omotayo started strong by winning the first set but was ultimately overpowered by Alamiyan, who dominated the subsequent sets, securing every point in the last two.
Tonight at 9:15 p.m., Aruna Quadri will face Eduard Ionescu of Romania.
Additionally, Nigerian players Offiong Edem and Fatimo Bello will compete in the women’s singles tournament. Edem will play against Bruna Takahashi of Brazil on Sunday at 9:00 p.m., while Bello will face France’s Jia Nan Yuan on Monday at 9:00 a.m.
