Palestinian officials have reported that an Israeli airstrike on a school in Deir-al Balah, central Gaza, killed at least 30 people and injured more than 100. The school was serving as a shelter for thousands of people.
The Israeli military stated that the strike targeted a Hamas command center within the compound.
Dr. Khalil Al-Daqran reported that most of the casualties at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital were women and children. Footage revealed a chaotic scene at the hospital with many bodies and a high number of child fatalities.
This attack followed new evacuation orders in Khan Younis, where recent Israeli actions had already resulted in numerous Palestinian deaths.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) had warned residents about upcoming operations and directed them to a designated humanitarian zone.
The conflict in Gaza has continued for months, with Israel aiming to dismantle Hamas.
Recent IDF actions reportedly killed around 100 militants. The United Nations reported that approximately 150,000 people fled Khan Younis in a single day, putting a strain on resources and shelter.
The military campaign began on October 7 following a Hamas attack on southern Israel, which resulted in 1,200 deaths and over 250 abductions. Since then, Israeli strikes have led to 39,258 Palestinian deaths, 90,589 injuries, and nearly 2 million displacements, according to the UN.
