Hamas’s political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, has been assassinated in Tehran, Iran, according to a statement from the group that governs Gaza, which accused Israel of carrying out the attack.
The statement mentioned that Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed when the building they were in was hit. Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration of Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday.
“Hamas mourns the loss of our leader, martyr Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in a Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran,” the group said.
