Telecom giant MTN has closed all its stores and service centers across Nigeria following backlash over its decision to disconnect several subscriber lines.
A viral video on social media from Monday shows a crowd of angry subscribers vandalizing an MTN office in FESTAC Town, Lagos State, after the company blocked lines due to discrepancies between National Identification Numbers and SIM registrations.
In response to the unrest, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin stated that the DPO of FESTAC and his team had successfully restored order at the scene.
On Tuesday, MTN announced that all its shops nationwide would remain closed for the day, July 30, 2024, as per a statement on X.
