The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has instructed telecom operators to restore service to lines that were recently disconnected due to not being linked with a National Identification Number (NIN). This decision follows a high number of subscribers experiencing barred lines over the weekend.
Although the initial disconnection was due to the failure to link NINs to SIM cards, the NCC has now mandated that all disconnected lines be reactivated. The commission has indicated that this reactivation is temporary, allowing users to complete the linking process.
The NCC had previously extended the deadline for linking SIMs with NINs from April 15, 2024, to July 31, 2024, to provide additional time for compliance.
However, many lines remain unlinked with verified NINs. It is uncertain whether this grace period will be extended further beyond the July 31, 2024, deadline.
