Police discharged gunshots into the air at the Top Medical junction in the Tunga area of Minna, Niger State’s capital, to deter protesters who were trying to block the road.
Prior to firing, the police had used teargas to disperse the protesters. Despite this, the #EndBadGovernance demonstrators attempted to regroup and obstruct traffic.
To disperse them, the police fired shots into the air and, with the help of vigilantes, removed stones used to block the road.
Security forces, including the police, military, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, are now overseeing sensitive areas like the Kpakungu Roundabout on the Minna-Bida road, where earlier protests had occurred.
