Simone Biles, despite her busy schedule in Paris this week, seems to be keeping an eye on events back home.
On Friday, following her win of a second gold medal at the Olympics and just before her next competition, Biles took to X to make a pointed comment about former President Trump’s recent remarks on “Black jobs.”
“I love my Black job,” Biles wrote.
The context for her remark is rooted in Trump’s controversial comments.
During a June debate with President Biden, Trump claimed that immigrants in the U.S. illegally are “taking Black jobs now.” He reiterated a similar sentiment during an interview at the National Association of Black Journalists’ annual convention in Chicago, suggesting that millions of people coming from the border are taking jobs from Black Americans. When asked what he meant by “Black jobs,” Trump said, “A Black job is anybody that has a job. That’s what it is, anybody that has a job.”
Trump also made disparaging remarks about the Black women interviewing him and mischaracterized Vice President Kamala Harris’s racial heritage.
On Thursday, Ricky Davila, who identifies as a “Singer-Songwriter. Foodie. Political junkie,” shared photos of Biles with the women’s all-around gold medal she had just won. “Simone Biles being the GOAT, winning gold medals and dominating gymnastics is her Black job,” Davila wrote.
The following day, Biles reposted Davila’s message with her own comment about her “Black job.” Lakers star LeBron James also shared Biles’ post, calling her the Black GOAT.
