The City of Isanti has confirmed that Police Officer Nicholas Martell was placed on administrative leave on Sunday. On the same day, records from the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office show that Martell was arrested and taken to the Anoka County Jail.
According to an Anoka County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, the Isanti County Sheriff’s Office requested an investigation into Martell, which resulted in his arrest on charges related to soliciting children for sexual conduct and sending sexually explicit materials to minors. Martell remains in custody at the Anoka County Jail and has not yet been formally charged.
An Isanti city official reported that Martell was hired as a police officer in February 2023 and has no prior disciplinary issues.
The investigation by the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office is ongoing.
