A Lagos High Court and the State Government have approved the continuation of the #EndBadGovernance protest.
The protest, which began on August 1 and was set to end on August 10, has faced a call for termination from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who addressed the nation on Sunday morning.
Despite this, the protest continues, resulting in some harsh responses across the country.
Instead of halting the protest, the Lagos High Court extended an earlier restriction allowing demonstrations only at Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park and Peace Park.
This decision came after Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Lawal Pedro (SAN) requested the extension to ensure protester safety within these specified areas.
The court’s ruling was based on the AG’s adherence to prior orders aimed at maintaining public peace.
Justice S. I. Sonaike approved the extension following confirmation that the AG had met necessary pre-action protocols.
The restriction, originally set by Justice Emmanuel Ogundare on July 30, aimed to safeguard public safety and prevent damage during the protests.
The case involves defendants from various activist groups and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police.
