On Thursday, former President Donald Trump shared a story with reporters about a supposed helicopter emergency landing he experienced with former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown.
Trump, speaking at his Mar-a-Lago resort, recounted that the landing was frightening and claimed to know Brown well, despite not having seen him in years.
Brown, however, refuted Trump’s story, calling it “obviously wrong” and stating that he has never been in a helicopter with Trump. Brown suggested that Trump was using this false account to undermine Vice President Kamala Harris, with whom Brown had a prior relationship.
The New York Times reported that Trump may have confused Willie Brown with former California Governor Jerry Brown.
According to Jerry Brown’s spokesperson, there was no emergency landing during their helicopter tour of wildfire damage in 2018, and the topic of Kamala Harris did not come up.
California Governor Gavin Newsom, who was also on the tour, dismissed Trump’s account as false, noting that the helicopter did not have any issues.
Trump’s claims that Willie Brown had negative views about Harris were also dismissed by Brown, who found the allegations implausible.
