A man in Ohio allegedly stabbed both of his parents after his mother refused to let him stay the night and asked his father to seek psychiatric help for him, according to police reports.
The suspect, 40-year-old Kenneth Mortimer, is accused of dragging his mother, Barbara Mortimer, 75, back into their home after she attempted to flee, and fatally stabbing her.
Mortimer is currently in the Hamilton County jail, facing charges of murder, attempted murder, and felonious assault.
His 75-year-old father survived the attack but sustained serious injuries and was taken to UC Hospital.
The Green Township Police Department responded to a call about a stabbing on Palmhill Lane in Green Township, near Cincinnati, just before 4 p.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, officers found two victims suffering from stab wounds, but the suspect had already fled the scene.
According to police, the incident began when Barbara Mortimer told her son he couldn’t stay the night, leading to an argument. She then asked her husband to call for psychiatric help, which reportedly prompted Kenneth Mortimer to grab a kitchen knife and attack his parents while they were seated on the couch. After stabbing his mother multiple times, Mortimer fled but was later apprehended in Cincinnati. Authorities say he confessed to the crime.
Kenneth Mortimer is scheduled to appear in court on August 20.
