On Tuesday evening, the program will include speeches from former President Barack Obama, former First Lady Michelle Obama, and other prominent Democrats such as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, and Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth.
The theme for the night is “A Bold Vision for America’s Future.”
In an effort to show bipartisanship, the event will also feature some Republicans, including Mesa, Arizona Mayor John Giles and former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham.
Michelle Obama, who has expressed a desire to step away from politics, will argue that the presidential race is too crucial for her to remain uninvolved, emphasizing the need to prevent Donald Trump from returning to the White House.
Although both Barack and Michelle Obama will speak, advisers to the Harris campaign believe Michelle’s address could resonate more strongly outside the convention. This speech will be a rare primetime event where she will passionately support Kamala Harris and critique Trump, offering an updated version of her famous 2016 “When they go low, we go high” speech.
Barack Obama will focus on why he believes Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, are the leaders the country needs. He will frame this period as a critical moment for the Democratic Party and outline the steps needed in the lead-up to November.
