Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is reportedly contemplating ending his independent presidential campaign to support Donald Trump, according to Nicole Shanahan, his vice-presidential candidate.
Shanahan, speaking on the Impact Theory With Tim Bilyeau podcast, suggested that continuing the campaign could inadvertently aid Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, by drawing votes away from Trump. She indicated that Kennedy’s campaign might align more with Trump than Harris.
Shanahan discussed two options: either continue the campaign, which could split votes and potentially help Harris, or drop out and back Trump, explaining the decision to their supporters. She expressed a preference for Trump over Harris, citing trust in Trump’s leadership and his backers.
In response, Trump expressed openness to a role for Kennedy in a future administration, praising Kennedy’s intelligence and long-standing acquaintance.
Shanahan’s comments follow recent polls showing Kennedy’s support leaning more towards Trump than Harris.
Kennedy’s independent run, which has drawn mixed reactions and skepticism, was also marked by his recent meeting with Trump at the Republican National Convention, where Trump reportedly sought Kennedy’s endorsement.
Kennedy’s attempts to engage with Harris have been unsuccessful, with Democratic sources dismissing him as a fringe candidate.
Kennedy, a member of the prominent Kennedy family, has faced criticism from his siblings, who view his independent run as a threat to the country’s political stability.
