From August 18th to 20th, 2024, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, visited the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
During her visit, she met with her Sri Lankan counterpart, M.U.M. Ali Sabry. Their discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations between Ghana and Sri Lanka, exploring potential areas for greater collaboration.
A key moment in their meeting on August 19, 2024, was the reaffirmation of both countries’ commitment to strengthening political, cultural, and economic ties. They explored opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, renewable energy, and the textile industry, while also stressing the importance of mutual support in international forums.
A notable outcome of the visit was the agreement to establish a business forum involving stakeholders from both nations to foster communication, exchange ideas, and explore collaborative opportunities for economic growth.
Climate change was a significant topic of discussion, with both leaders underscoring the need for a unified approach to advocate for stronger global climate action and support sustainable development initiatives.
Additionally, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey took the opportunity to outline her objectives for the Commonwealth and officially announced her candidacy for Secretary-General.
