Lionsgate has issued an apology to Francis Ford Coppola and the critics involved after it was discovered that their trailer for ‘Megalopolis’ included fake quotes from critics.
The company admitted the mistake and is recalling the trailer, which had been released with fabricated negative reviews for Coppola’s past films like ‘The Godfather’ series and ‘Apocalypse Now’.
The false quotes suggested that even Coppola’s acclaimed works had faced criticism, but they did not appear in the original reviews.
The trailer, which was removed from Lionsgate’s official page, is still available on other platforms.
‘Megalopolis’ has been a significant project for Coppola, and despite a warm reception at Cannes, it has received mixed reviews.
