Divers have located the remains of the final person missing from the superyacht Bayesian, which sank off the coast of Sicily early Monday.
Salvo Cocina, head of the island’s Civil Protection agency, confirmed on Friday that the body has been recovered and brought ashore, though it has not been formally identified.
Italian media suggest that the body is likely that of 18-year-old Hannah Lynch, daughter of British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch. Mike Lynch’s body was retrieved from the sunken vessel on Thursday.
The yacht, resting on the seabed at a depth of over 160 feet and tilted at a 90-degree angle, posed significant challenges for rescue operations.
Previously, the body of the ship’s cook was found near the wreck shortly after the yacht sank, and divers recovered four more bodies from the vessel on Wednesday.
With this recovery, the total number of victims now stands at seven, encompassing everyone who was on the yacht owned by Angela Bacares, Mike Lynch’s wife.
Fifteen people survived the sinking, including Bacares, who were found on a life raft by the captain of a nearby anchored boat.
Prosecutors are investigating the incident, seeking to understand how the luxury superyacht, equipped with advanced safety features, sank so rapidly during a storm, according to witness accounts.
