Atiku Abubakar’s accusations against President Bola Tinubu are creating considerable political friction.
Abubakar alleges that Tinubu is centralizing power and turning Nigeria into his personal domain, with concerns that Tinubu is extending his influence over the nation’s resources and institutions.
Abubakar draws a comparison between Tinubu’s business practices in Lagos and his actions at the national level, suggesting that Tinubu’s administration is focusing on personal and family interests rather than the public good. This criticism underscores the ongoing political rivalry between the two, especially in the wake of the contentious 2023 presidential election.
These allegations could lead to increased scrutiny of Tinubu’s administration and potentially impact public opinion and future political dynamics in Nigeria. Abubakar noted, “Just as Alpha Beta, Primero, and others functioned as Tinubu’s proxies in Lagos, managing key sectors and generating revenue for him and his family, he has begun to mirror these practices at the federal level.”
Abubakar also expressed frustration that Tinubu’s actions have overshadowed his own plans to privatize the NNPC for greater transparency.
He criticized the retention of Mele Kyari as NNPC Group Managing Director despite his alleged incompetence, and the appointment of Pius Akinyelure, Tinubu’s former colleague at Mobil, as NNPC Chairman while Tinubu himself took on the role of Minister of Petroleum.
He added, “The NNPC did not reveal the purchase price of OVH or the terms of the acquisition.
