The Adamawa State Government has begun paying its workers the newly approved minimum wage of N70,000, fulfilling Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s commitment to implement the raise starting in August.
Reports confirmed that the increased wage was included in the salaries disbursed on Friday, August 23, the usual payday for state employees.
State workers expressed satisfaction with the new wage structure.
Amos Tumba, a civil servant, confirmed receiving the increase, while another employee, Amma Yohanna, also verified the payment.
Governor Fintiri had earlier assured labor leaders of the state’s readiness to implement the wage increase during a meeting on August 19.
The state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Fashe, later communicated that while state workers would receive the new wage this month, local government employees would have to wait until September 2024 for the adjustment.
