President Bola Tinubu has appointed new leaders for two key intelligence agencies in Nigeria, the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed has been named the Director-General of the NIA. With a distinguished career in the foreign service, Ambassador Mohammed joined the NIA in 1995 and steadily rose through the ranks.
He previously served as the head of Nigeria’s mission in Libya and has held various roles in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and at the State House in Abuja. He graduated from Bayero University, Kano, in 1990.
Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi has been appointed as the new Director-General of the DSS. Ajayi, who recently served as an Assistant Director-General, has an extensive background in intelligence work.
He has held leadership positions as the State Director of the DSS in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi states.
These appointments come after the resignation of the previous heads of the NIA and DSS. President Tinubu has urged the new leaders to leverage their experience to strengthen the agencies’ performance.
He emphasized the importance of close collaboration with other security bodies and alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to address Nigeria’s security challenges effectively.
The President also expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General for their service and wished them well in their future endeavors.
