Mussie Imnetu, a chef who worked under Gordon Ramsay, is in critical condition after being attacked near Notting Hill Carnival on Monday night, according to the Metropolitan Police.
Imnetu, 41, was in London on business from Dubai and was found unconscious with a head injury after leaving Dr Power coffee shop in Queensway at around 11:22 p.m.
The coffee shop was busy with Carnival-goers when the assault occurred, and patrons attempted to intervene.
Imnetu, who is originally from Sweden and has worked at prestigious restaurants globally, received first aid from officers at the scene before being rushed to the hospital.
His family is being supported by specialist officers.
Police have arrested a 31-year-old man in Newham on suspicion of attempted murder.
Detectives are seeking public assistance to trace Imnetu’s movements from 1 p.m. when he was last seen on CCTV outside The Arts Club on Dover Street until he arrived at the coffee shop later that night.
DCI Brian Howie of the Met’s Homicide Command emphasized the need for information from anyone who was at the restaurant or in the area between 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. The attack happened around 11:20 p.m., and authorities are urging anyone with images or videos from that time to come forward.
The incident coincides with other violent events at the Carnival.
Cher Maximen, 32, remains in a coma and may lose her leg after being stabbed while trying to intervene in a fight.
Police reported eight stabbings over the festival, which saw around 350 arrests, including 72 for weapon possession. Additionally, 61 officers were injured during the event.
The Notting Hill Carnival organizers have condemned the violence and reaffirmed their commitment to a safe celebration of Caribbean culture.
