Recent social media footage from the World Robot Conference in Beijing showcases remarkably lifelike humanoid robots.
However, it was later revealed that two of these “robots” were actually human women dressed as futuristic gynoids, likely hired by the animatronics company Ex-Robots.
Many attendees initially mistook the women for actual robots.
The illusion was broken when an image of one of the women eating lunch at the event surfaced online, revealing their human nature.
This isn’t the first instance of humans posing as robots.
In 2022, Tesla faced criticism for using a dancer in a spandex suit to represent their Optimus robot. The Ex-Robots cosplayers were more convincing, though some users were fooled into believing they were real robots. A community note on X (formerly Twitter) pointed out that the original post clearly identified the cosplayers as fake.
Despite using human models at the conference, Ex-Robots is working on genuine humanoid robots capable of expressing emotions and reacting to their surroundings.
The reason behind choosing human cosplayers for the event remains uncertain, possibly serving as a promotional tactic or a deliberate attempt to mislead attendees.
