Several vehicles at the rear of a motorcade transporting Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz crashed on Monday while traveling from the airport to a campaign event in Milwaukee. Fortunately, Walz was unharmed. The incident took place just before 1 p.m. local time.
Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign confirmed that she had spoken with Walz shortly after the crash and confirmed he was not injured.
The accident affected cars at the back of the motorcade, while Walz, who is also the governor of Minnesota, was situated towards the front.
A member of Walz’s traveling team, who was in a van with reporters, sustained injuries and is receiving medical attention, according to a pool report.
The report described that the van occupants were jolted violently when their vehicle collided with one in front and was hit from behind, though most appeared to be fine.
The cause of the crash is not yet known.
The crash occurred after Walz and his wife, Gwen, were welcomed at the airport by Democratic Representative Gwen Moore of Wisconsin. The three shared a hug, chatted, and took a photo before the motorcade proceeded to the event.
Monday’s campaign events for Labor Day were Walz’s first on the Harris-Walz campaign charter plane, which features American flag decals and the campaign slogan “A New Way Forward.”
