Cristiano Ronaldo has solidified his place as one of football’s all-time greats by becoming the first male player to score 900 official goals.
He achieved this milestone during Portugal’s UEFA Nations League game against Croatia on September 5, 2024, in Lisbon.
Ronaldo’s historic goal, a volley from 6 yards out assisted by Nuno Mendes, came in the 34th minute, putting Portugal ahead 2-0. The team went on to win 2-1.
With five Ballon d’Or titles, Ronaldo now leads by 58 goals over Lionel Messi, who has 842 goals, while Brazilian icon Pelé holds third place with 765. Ronaldo first surpassed 800 goals in late 2021 during his time at Manchester United.
Ronaldo also holds the international goal-scoring record with 131 goals in 209 matches, further showcasing his lasting influence on the sport.
Messi and former Iranian forward Ali Daei are tied for second, each with 109 international goals.
