Images of the ex-boyfriend accused of killing Olympic marathon runner Rebecca Cheptegei have recently surfaced.
Cheptegei, 33, sustained severe burns over 75% of her body during a violent attack allegedly carried out by Dickson Ndiema.
Despite being rushed to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya, where she was admitted to the intensive care unit, Cheptegei passed away due to multiple organ failure, according to Dr. Owen Menach, the facility’s acting director.
The suspect, Ndiema, is also recovering from burn injuries he received during the incident.
Cheptegei, who leaves behind two children aged nine and eleven from a previous relationship in Uganda, had her daughter witness the attack.
The young girl recounted to Kenya’s The Standard that Ndiema kicked her as she attempted to help her mother, and despite her cries for help, a neighbor’s attempt to extinguish the flames with water was unsuccessful.
