Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will face off in their first debate on Tuesday, September 10, at 9 p.m. ET, just two months before Election Day.
The 90-minute debate will be held at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, a museum and educational center dedicated to the U.S. Constitution.
ABC News is hosting the event, with David Muir, anchor of “World News Tonight,” and Linsey Davis as moderators.
Although neither Muir nor Davis has moderated a general election debate, both have experience from previous primary debates.
A virtual coin flip determined podium positions and closing statement order, with Trump winning and choosing to deliver the final closing statement. Harris opted for the right-side podium on screen.The closing statements, will be two minutes each.
The debate will follow strict rules, including no props or pre-written notes, with only pens, paper, and water allowed at the podiums.
After discussions between the campaigns, it was agreed that microphones will be muted while the opponent speaks to ensure fair turns for each candidate.
The moderators will control the questions, and no studio audience will be present.
Both candidates will have two minutes to respond to each question, with time for rebuttals and clarifications.
The debate will be broadcast live on ABC and several other networks and streamed on ABC’s platforms, including Disney+ and Hulu.
