The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced plans for a large-scale protest to shut down major cities across Nigeria on September 15, 2024.
The demonstration is in response to the recent fuel price increase and dissatisfaction with the NNPC Director General, Mele Kyari.
NANS is calling for an immediate rollback of the fuel price hike and the removal of Mr. Kyari from his position.
The students’ union has stated their intention to peacefully occupy major cities if their demands are not met by the NNPC.
Notifications have been sent to security agencies, including the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and state governors, informing them of the planned shutdown.
In their circular, NANS emphasized the economic hardship caused by the fuel price rise and urged Nigerian students to join the protest, while assuring authorities that it will remain peaceful.
