On Thursday, former President Donald Trump declared he would not take part in any additional presidential debates with Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, referring to his initial debate with President Joe Biden in June and his recent encounter with Harris.
Harris’ campaign had requested another debate following their face-off in Philadelphia, with Harris reinforcing this appeal at a rally in Charlotte, emphasizing the significance of the election. Trump dismissed the idea, suggesting Harris should focus on her past record.
The Harris campaign is skeptical of Trump’s announcement, with a senior adviser predicting that another debate might still occur given Trump’s tendency to change his stance.
After their Philadelphia debate, Trump criticized the moderators and claimed he had been unfairly treated. He also expressed uncertainty about participating in future debates, maintaining that he had won.
Upcoming debates include one between Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, and Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, scheduled for October 1.
